Kate S. McCleary, PhD, partners with campus and external organizations to design and support academic initiatives and scholarship programs across UW–Madison’s International Division. She works closely with the Brittingham-Viking Scholarship, UW-Madison’s Fulbright Office, the King-Morgridge Scholars Program, the Madison Torske Klubben Trygve Lonnebotn Scholarship, UW-Madison’s Peace Corps Office, the S & S Scholarship, the Scan Design Program, and the Wisconsin International Scholars Program. Her focus areas include academic initiatives, scholarships, intercultural learning, developmental learning, and student growth.
McCleary holds a PhD in comparative international development education (University of Minnesota), an MEd in educational leadership (Lehigh University), and a BA in Spanish and History (Muhlenberg College). Her dissertation examined Honduran youths’ understanding of agency and gender constructions in relation to an international development intervention. Kate has held positions in international education at Lehigh University, the University of Minnesota, and Washington College, and received a Fulbright U.S. Student Research Award to Spain. She previously served as the staff director for the Global Engagement Office in the School of Education here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
